Our Accomplishments for 2014

As we look forward to the New Year of 2015, the Putnam County Business Council can take pride and satisfaction with our continuing accomplishments and progress since our beginning in 2010. Building on our past successes, 2014 was a very good year.

We started off the Year 2014 with the exciting 2013 Trailblazer Success Awards event in January. We continued to highlight the entrepreneurial spirit of Putnam’s Business Community by honoring Emerging, Established and Mature businesses as well as Environmentally Engaged and Socially Conscious businesses at the well-attended gala at Villa Barone.

The Putnam County Business Council continued its commitment to bring together our elected officials and our business community during our fifth annual Elected Officials Forum in March. This casual meeting of our representatives from the federal to the village level and our business community has proven to be a positive opportunity to express concerns and share ideas.

In May, we joined with the Putnam County Economic Development Corporation in a joint Breakfast Meeting attended by our government and business leaders with a keynote message from former Governor George Pataki. Our partnership with the PCEDC, and its President Meghan Taylor, has helped our County score well with the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council in the competition for state funding. In 2014, Putnam County projects were awarded over $2,000,000.

The Putnam Shop Home and Business Expo, on June 7th, led by the Greater Mahopac-Carmel CofC and hosted by the Putnam Hospital Center, was a sunny success attended by over 2,000 visitors. The PC CofC participates in promoting the event and showcasing the efforts of our six local Chambers of Commerce.

We continue to make a significant effort to monitor and participate in the government processes that affect our business community. We have participated with our Village, Town, County and State governments to voice the concerns and ideas of the business community in a productive relationship. We have seen the better crafting of legislation and regulation. And we can take pride in the implementation of projects that enhance the economic and social well-being of our Putnam Community such as Tilly Foster Farm, the Kent Route 52 Sewer District and in planning projects for Brewster, Carmel, Cold Spring, Kent and Putnam Valley.

The PC CofC, through its work with Putnam County Transportations Advisory Council, has been chosen to coordinate the branding and advertising programs of our public bus system to promote its increased use and generate some revenue to offset the expense to the taxpayers. Putnam Moves will highlight our County’s transition into the 21st Century.

We have continued our bi-partisan approach to the politics in Putnam by hosting our Candidates Meet & Greet in September and offering each candidate at the State, County, Town and Village level to present themselves in a non-confrontational message that is distributed to our local cable networks and through the internet connections.

Throughout the year, the PC CofC Constant Contact and Facebook messages have brought the events and messages of the business community to everyone’s attention. The citizens of Putnam are aware that our business community is available and working on their behalf.

The 2014 Trailblazer Success Awards will be celebrated on Thursday, February 26, 2015, and is an affirmation of the vitality at all levels of Putnam’s business community – Emerging (1-5 years), Established (5-15 years), Pillar of the Community (15+ years) and Minority and Women-Owned Businesses.

The Putnam County Business Council looks forward to an even more exciting and productive New Year in 2015. We will continue to advocate for the interests of our business community and work with our member Chambers to enhance the conditions and opportunities that will make Putnam County the great place we all want to live and work in.
